Fort Worth Teenager Shot & Killed During Home Invasion
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - A teenager was shot and killed early Wednesday morning during a home invasion in east Fort Worth. Authorities were called just after 4:00 a.m. to the scene along Warren Lane, near Brentwood Stair Road, to the east of Loop 820.
First responders found the teenage boy dead from multiple gunshot wounds. His brother was also shot in the shoulder, but was able to run to a neighbor's house to call for help. The teen was pronounced dead at the scene and homicide detectives were called out.
The child's mother, Shawndrisa Hicks, identified the young victim as 15-year-old King Thomas. He was living at the Warren Lane address with his older brother.
Hicks said she had just visited with her son. "It is a nightmare yes, because I was here with him yesterday. We hugged, took pictures, I went and got him something to eat and me and his sisters we sat her with him until it was time for me to go to work," she said. "That was the last I seen [sic] him and got to hug him and tell him that I love him. He told me he loved me and now he's gone."
Hicks said her son was about to start his sophomore year of high school, was a good student, and liked Jordan sneakers and rapping.
Police have not said if this particular home was targeted, or if this was simply a random attack. However, the teen's mother said that the suspects are friends who went to elementary school with Thomas. The family says the young victim's brother was able to identify the suspects for police.
