Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra Kicks Off New Season

The month of November brings a lineup of great performances from the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra (FWSO).  Last week, the FWSO kicked off the month with a concert featuring the works of Mozart and Saleri, bringing audiences performances of Salieri, Symphony in D Major, "ll giorno onomastico"; Mozart, Piano Concerto No. 21 in C Major, K. 467; Salieri, Overture to Cublai, gran kan de' Tartari; Mozart, Symphony No. 39 in E-flat Major, K. 543.

The FWSO then moves from the Classical Era to Romanticism with Rachmaninoff. Sergei Rachmaninoff was both an influential pianists and composer, and is said to be one of the last great representatives of Romanticism in Russian classical music. During his last remaining years he brought his foreign influences to the United States, touring the nation until he died in 1918.

The FWSO will be showcasing Rachmaninoff's brooding Symphony No. 2. FWSO's own Principal Horn Mark Houghton will accompany Rachmaninoff's piece with the Horn Concerto No. 1 by Richard Strauss. Strauss was a leading German composer of the late Romantic and early modern era. Together FWSO will bring both composers work together for a weekend of Romantic wonder with the following: John Adams, The Chairman Dances (Foxtrot for Orchestra); Strauss, Horn Concerto No. 1 in E-flat Major, Op. 11; Rachmaninoff, Symphony No. 2 in E Minor, Op. 27. Performances will run Friday, November 18 at 7:30pm; Saturday, November 19 at 8:00pm; and Sunday, November 20 at 2:00pm at Bass Performance Hall.

Finally, the FWSO will close out the month of November with Home for the Holidays. FWSO brings traditional holiday melodies to the Bass Performance Hall with the sounds of the season and an appearance from Santa Claus himself. Conductor Ron Spigelman will lead the FWSO through four performances: Friday, November 25 at 8:00pm; Saturday, November 26 at 2:00pm and 8:00pm; and Sunday November 27 at 2:00pm.
