FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - A serial rapist and robber who terrorized the area of Fort Worth encompassing Riverside Drive and Berry Street last summer, was found guilty by a Tarrant County jury this week of Aggravated Kidnapping, Attempted Aggravated Sexual Assault and Robbery.

For his crimes, the jury sentenced the defendant, Terry Lynn Douglas of Fort Worth, to two life sentences, plus 80 years with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

Douglas was arrested in August 2014 after a victim he attempted to sexually assault and then robbed of her car picked him out of a photo lineup.

Given similarities in her account of the attack to other recent reports, Fort Worth Police detectives were able to connect Douglas to a series of four other robberies and sexual assaults in the same neighborhood over the past three weeks, including one involving a mentally disabled young boy.

Once Douglas was arrested, his DNA profile ultimately connected him to a least a dozen other robberies and sexual assaults over the past several years. Unlike with many sex offenders, his victims fit no discernible pattern, and included women and men of various ages and races.

"Terry Douglas thought he was preying on the weak, but he was wrong," said lead prosecutor, Kimberly D'Avignon. "These brave men and women walked into court this week and told their stories and, by doing so, ensured that he will never prey on anyone ever again. We are grateful for the hard work of the Fort Worth Police Department and for the strength of these victims."

A career criminal and known drug user with a history of offenses dating back to 1989, Douglas has six past convictions for Robbery and Aggravated Robbery. While on the stand, Douglas defiantly denied any responsibility for the crimes and repeatedly verbally assaulted prosecutors who questioned him.
