Fort Worth Schools Reflect On 9/11 Attacks
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - The entire nation paused Tuesday to remember the 9/11 terror attacks, and honor those who lost their lives 11 years ago. Several memorial events were held across the Metroplex, including at various schools in Fort Worth where the students are too young to recall that fateful day.
Members of the Northside Senior High School ROTC raised a flag in honor of those who died on 9/11. Students gathered before the first school bell as the band and choir performed the National Anthem. It was an emotional morning on campus, even though many of the students were barely old enough to remember the attack.
Sergio Estala was only a child when the 9/11 terror attack took place. But, he said, a family friend was killed that day. "I attended to pay my respects for him, but not only him," Estala said. "Everyone. I know it's a great tragedy, and when I think about it sometimes, I do get saddened, but you just have to move on."
At the end of the Northside Senior High School ceremony, Principal Antonio Martinez assisted in laying a wreath at the base of the flagpole.
Meanwhile, at Texas Christian University, thousands of small American flags lined the grass outside of the Student Union building, each one meant to represent one person killed in the 9/11 terror attacks. They were placed on the campus by student organizations 'Young Americans For Freedom' and 'Young Americans For Liberty,' as a part of the '9/11: Never Forget' project.
A few TCU students paused to take pictures of the flags and remember the lives that were lost.
