Fort Worth Robbery Suspect Escapes After Being Shot

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Police in Fort Worth are searching for a robber who managed to escape even after being shot by officers.

Police received a robbery in progress alarm and a simultaneous 911 call around 7:30 Wednesday morning. The caller reported that a man, with a handgun, was holding up the Family Dollar Store in the 6100 block of Ramey Avenue, near East Loop 820.

What the robber didn't know was that three Fort Worth police officers were nearby and met him as he ran out the back door.

Police spokesman Sergeant Pedro Criado says the robber pointed his gun at the officers who then returned fire.

"We do believe that the suspect was hit, we just don't know how many times or where he was actually hit," he said.

As police searched a vacant house for the robber, one officer fell through the ceiling and hurt his shoulder. His injuries are not life threatening.

The search continues for the suspect.
