FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - A police officer shot and killed a man after a robbery investigation in west Fort Worth on Tuesday night. The incident happened at around 11:45 p.m. outside of the Gas Pipe store located in the 6000 block of Camp Bowie Boulevard.

Police said that the suspect walked into the store with a baseball bat and a screwdriver as part of a robbery attempt. A clerk ran out of the store, went to another nearby store, and called the police.

When authorities arrived at the scene, a second clerk exited the Gas Pipe store and told police that the suspect was still inside.

That male suspect came out of the store a few minutes later. Officers ordered him to drop the bat and screwdriver, but he refused. Instead, officials explained, that suspect charged at an officer, who fired one shot. The suspect was struck in the chest.

The suspect was taken to a local hospital, but later died. His name has not yet been released.

The officer involved in the shooting has also not yet been identified, but has been with the force for just one year. That officer will be placed on routine leave while an investigation is conducted.
