FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Emergency crews in Fort Worth are looking for a missing kayaker. The search is centered around an area of water located near the intersection of Interstate-30 and Beach Street, in the eastern part of the city.

According to authorities at the scene, the man said that he was going kayaking and was expected to return at around 5:00 p.m. on Sunday evening. But family members have not heard from the man since he left. They became concerned and alerted officials.

This is particularly worrisome after strong storms battered North Texas in the overnight hours, causing area waterways to swell and increasing the speed of rushing currents.

A fire department dive team began searching the water at around 10:30 a.m. on Monday morning. There is also a police canine unit on the scene to assist in the search effort.
