Fort Worth (CBSDFW.COM) – When burglars broke into a home on Clarke Avenue in May, they didn't just steal objects, they took the family's beloved pet named Petey!

But after following a few leads, West Division detectives and officers from the Tactical Response to Apartment Crime (TRAC) Team found the 4 month old, Collie/Heeler mix.

Petey walked through the screen door from inside the home where police were interviewing suspects. They were literally showing a photo of the pup when he showed up.

Officers recognized Petey immediately and took possession of him. Before leaving the home, officers obtained an admission from one of the burglary suspects and are in the process of  drafting an arrest warrant.

Detectives contacted Petey's owner and returned the dog to its family along with several other stolen items.

Dog stolen in home burglary returned and reunited with its owner! Officers will be recognized at City Hall on June 28!!! Welcome home Petey - we hope you're enjoying the good life!
