Fort Worth Police Identify Officers Shot Friday Night

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Fort Worth Police have identified the two officers shot Friday night. Probationary Officer Ray Azucena is out of the hospital, and Field Training Officer Xavier Serrano's condition has stabilized after he was shot three times.
They were responding to a shooting call that left a man dead in his home and another person dead outside in a shed. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner identified one of the victims as Carl Fleece and reports the other person found dead is Martin Craig Fleece.
At last check Officer Serrano had X-rays done early Saturday when he was reported in stable condition. Police now tell us both officers are expected to make a full recovery. That's welcome news as we learn more about the call that led up to the shooting.
Veneda Fleece took us into her backyard to see what's left of the shed where her son, Martin Craig Fleece lived. Officers Serrano and Azucena had responded to a possible suicide call at the home where they found 81-year-old Carl Fleece dead.
When asked if her husband took his own life, Veneda Fleece insisted, "Oh, no. He wouldn't do that. No, he's a Christian. He would not do that."
Police tell us when they found Carl Fleece, someone inside the home told them a witness to the shooting had gone to the backyard shed.
Police tell us there is a history of disturbance calls at the home with arguments between the father and son. Mrs. Fleece says Friday night they argued again.
"He was speaking to my son, and then he started to give way, and he thought that things were alright, and things weren't alright," Mrs. Fleece said.
On his Facebook page Carl Fleece describes himself as a retired lieutenant colonel in the Air Force.
"He was a good man. He took good care of his family," Mrs. Fleece said.
When asked about the shooting death of Carl Fleece, police would only say the case remains under investigation.
"That's just life. You know, so that's the way it goes. I just hope it doesn't happen again anywhere, here in my family or in my neighborhood or anyplace else. It's a hard thing," Mrs. Fleece said.
While police have not yet identified the man found inside the shed, we do know he did have gunshot wounds. Police tell us it's unclear if those wounds were self-inflicted or from officers.
