Fort Worth Police Honor 59 Officers Killed In Line Of Duty

FORT WORTH (CBS11) – Families of fallen officers, current officers and community leaders gathered Wednesday to honor the 59 City of Fort Worth police officers killed in the line of duty.
The crowds gathered at the Police & Firefighter Memorial off of West 7th Street.
Among those in attendance were the widow and son of Henry "Hank" Nava Jr.
Officer Nava was killed in 2005 while serving a warrant on wanted felon.
"The outpouring of the community it is amazing that community comes out for their officers," said his widow Theresa Nava Salazar
The 59 names of the fallen officers were read one by one as bag pipes played followed by Taps.
With so much anti-police sentiment in many communities, those who came to the ceremony say they fear the day they'll have to add more names to the wall.
"It's a sobering reminder in some respects to the perils we face every day in just going out to do the jobs we choose to do," said Fort Worth Police Chief Joel Fitzgerald.
The ceremony concluded with promise to never forget those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.
"We memorialize those that we've lost here and on this day...and we acknowledge those losses," said Fitzgerald.
