Fort Worth Police Chief Receives Vote Of Confidence
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – Fort Worth City Council members met Tuesday to discuss the future of Police Chief Jeff Halstead and ended up giving him a vote of confidence.
He was accused of allowing racial discrimination in his department.
The city managers office responded to the report, which specifically held Halstead and his staff accountable for allowing racial harassment to go unchecked.
The report noted the department's willingness to accept and condone aggressive and intimidating behavior. It also said there was a failure to act on the part of the department's management. Additionally the report stated that department leadership was silent on bringing a halt to the harassment and the appearance of retaliation.
Sources told CBS 11 News the council members looked at options recommended by the report such as: "top down training" to create friendly work environment, better communication between the chain of command and police officer associations and revising the police department's anti-discrimination and anti-harassment policy.
Council members said there is a zero tolerance of racial and biased behaviors by employees from now on.
