Fort Worth Chase Ends With Spectacular Crash
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - A white utility van being chased by Fort Worth police went airborne early Thursday morning, clipping two pickup trucks and narrowly missing a house before crashing into a tree.
It all started around 2:00 a.m. Thursday morning when officers got a call about a burglary in progress near a scrap yard at Northwest 37th Street and Ellis Avenue on the city's north side.
When they got there, officers spotted two men in the van. One of the suspects ran away on foot and was caught by police. The other suspect took off in the van and police gave chase.
That chase ended in the 1900 block of McCurdy Street at Elwood Avenue -- just off of U.S. Highway 287 in southeast Fort Worth. Police said that the van was going so fast that, when the driver hit the curb, it caused the vehicle to go airborne.
The driver was hurt, but not seriously. He was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth. Once he is released, police said that he will face charges of evading arrest and causing the crash. Additional charges are also possible as police continue their investigation.
