FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - A Fort Worth police officer was responding to a priority call Wednesday morning when his vehicle skidded off the road and struck a wooden electricity pole.

The officer was able to call for assistance after the accident. Emergency responders with the fire department required a hydraulic metal cutter to extract the officer from his vehicle.

He was transported to the hospital with minor injuries and is in stable condition.

The accident occurred at approximately 9:20 a.m. while the officer was driving in the eastbound lane on the 4800 block of Randol Mill Road. With his lights and siren on, the officer was taking a curb when he lost control of his vehicle and struck a pole on the north side of the road.

The officer was initially responding to a fight in progress, in which the caller stated a male was carrying a baseball bat as a weapon.
