Fort Worth Man Sentenced For Killing Girlfriend

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - A 36-year-old Fort Worth man was sentenced to 99 years in jail on Friday for fatally shooting his girlfriend in the back last year. Jurors deliberated for about 30 minutes before convicting Samuel Arren Ferralez of murder, and then for another hour before the sentencing.

The fatal shooting incident took place on May 29, 2011. Ferralez was living with girlfriend Stephenie Caddy-Aqqad and her three children at a home in the 3500 block of Saint Vincent Road in Fort Worth. Family members said that their relationship was not very good at the time. The exact story of what happened that day changed throughout the investigation and trial process.

It was determined that Ferralez shot Caddy-Aqqad in the back while they were at home in their garage. Ferralez then walked through the house and into the backyard, where he threw his handgun and bullets over the fence. Caddy-Aqqad was transported to a nearby hospital, but later pronounced dead.

When authorities first questioned Ferralez, he told police that a gunman followed Caddy-Aqqad home from the pharmacy. Ferralez denied having a gun, and could not explain why the murder weapon was found on the other side of his home's backyard fence.

But the story changed during the murder trial. Ferralez testified that he arrived home to find Caddy-Aqqad in the garage with another man. Ferralez then grabbed a gun from his car and confronted the other man. As the two struggled over the gun, the weapon fired and Caddy-Aqqad was struck in the back. Ferralez admitted to tossing the gun over the fence before calling 911.

Caddy-Aqqad's three kids were in Galveston with their father at the time of the shooting. However, Ferralez's three children were with him that day, playing video games in an upstairs room of the home while the shooting incident was taking place downstairs in the garage.
