Fort Worth Man Convicted For Wounding 2 Cops

FORT WORTH (AP) - A North Texas man who testified he thought gang members were breaking into his home has been convicted over gunfire that wounded two police officers.

The penalty phase continues Wednesday in Fort Worth for 24-year-old Ronald Wayne Herford.

Herford had been charged with aggravated assault on a public servant in the February 2010 incident. He was convicted on a lesser charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and faces up to 20 years in prison.

The two wounded officers, who were among a group trying to serve a drug-related warrant, have since returned to duty.

Herford on Friday told jurors that he fired toward the garage and did not know police were outside, instead thinking gangs were after him.
