Fort Worth Man Charged For Wife's 1985 Murder

FORT WORTH (AP) - A North Texas man whose wife was slain in 1985 has been charged with murder after DNA evidence led to a to review the case.

Tarrant County jail records show 58-year-old Paul Ervin of Fort Worth was freed Monday after posting $25,000 bail. Fort Worth police on Saturday arrested Ervin after his indictment.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports an initial grand jury declined to indict the husband over the June 1985 death of 26-year-old Linda Ervin. Court records cited a lack of physical evidence. Police say the woman was strangled and her body was found at the couple's home.

The victim's stepchildren pushed to have the investigation reopened.

Defense attorney Mike Heiskell says the original grand jury's no-bill decision was correct and he's confident Ervin will be acquitted.
