Fort Worth ISD Replacing Water Fountains Over Lead Concerns

FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD) - The Fort Worth School District is replacing hundreds of drinking fountains after discovering unsafe lead levels in the water.
According to FWISD officials, high lead levels showed up in dozens of samples from 28 schools.
It is estimated the district will spend around $800,000 to replace 400 water fountains. The school district plans to have them installed before school begins August 22.
Fountains in the following elementary schools are being replaced first: Atwood McDonald, Burton Hill, Carter Park, Christine Moss, Como, DK Sellers, DeZavala, Dolores Huerta, East Handley, George Clarke, J.T. Stevens, Kirkpatrick, M.H. Moore, ML Phillips, Maude Logan, Meadowbrook, Oakhurst, Oaklawn, RJ Wilson, S.S. Dillow, Sagamore Hill, Springdale, Sunrise McMillan, Westcliff, Westcreek.
Three high schools will also have fountains replaced, including: Carter Riverside, Dunbar, Riverside ALC.
The district says parents should take their children to a doctor for testing if they are concerned about lead levels.
