Fort Worth ISD Ready For Returning Students
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - The Fort Worth Independent School District had its hands full on Monday with thousands of students going back to class. But administrators were well prepared. Nearly 400 buses rolled out in the early morning hours after two days of practice runs last week. About 15,000 students in the school district rely on buses to take them to and from school.
Bus drivers said that the practice runs were a big help, because they were able to know about new construction zones and find ways to add time to their route -- by either avoiding certain places or taking new detours.
There is also a new program this year called Code Blue. Volunteers who have trained with the Fort Worth Police Department will now patrol one of the 10 elementary school campuses using this new security program. "It's totally different now than what it was back then, so it does make me feel a lot better," said parent Robert Dickerson. "Definitely makes me feel better."
High schools and middle schools already have resource officers in place. Superintendent Walter Dansby hopes that the Code Blue program will expand to other elementary schools soon.
