Fort Worth ISD Board To Announce Superintendent Candidate
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - The field was narrowed from five, down to two and finally just one. Tonight the Fort Worth ISD School Board is expected to reveal the name of the candidate for school superintendent.
While school board Vice President Juan Rangel won't reveal the name of the candidate he said he is very proud of how the search was carried out.
"Regardless of what anybody says, I believe these board members are very committed and dedicated to the process and were very fair throughout the entire effort," he said.
There was a veil of secrecy surrounding the selection process, which was held behind closed doors.
Rangel defended the classified approach saying, "Many times in your taking action in a personnel issue you want to keep many of those parts and pieces very confidential," he explained. "It is a personnel matter and we have always practiced that in the past and we will continue to do so."
Larry Shaw is the executive director of the United Educators Association, which represents many teachers in the Fort worth ISD and said he has some ideas about what name will be announced.
"If I was a bettin' person, I bet it would be Walter Dansby, who is the interim superintendent right now. He's one of the better ones or will be one of the better ones, in my opinion," he predicted.
Regardless of what name is announced, there is a waiting period for the final candidate.
"That person has 21 days to go through a series of background checks," explained Rangel. "It's a period of time where both parties will discuss any related issues or any concerns."
After the 21-day wait, school board trustees will take a final vote on the candidate.
