Fort Worth Fire That Killed 2 Ruled An Arson
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – Investigators have ruled that a Saturday night fire that killed two men was intentionally set.
Fort Worth Fire Department spokesman Tom Crow said fire investigators determined the cause was arson on Sunday and have launched a criminal investigation with the Fort Worth Police Department. He offered no further information.
Fire department emergency crews responded to the fire in the 4500 block of Moorview Ave. at about 8 p.m. Saturday, Crow said. When fire fighters entered the home, they found two elderly male victims inside and carried them outside the home.
Fire and MedStar responders attempted to resuscitate both, but were not able to, Crow said. Both men were declared dead at the scene. The one-alarm fire was reportedly in the rear part of the home, although heavy smoke was present throughout.
Neighbors say the owner of the home is 90-year-old Bobby Hubbard who took care of his 68-year-old nephew Thomas Wheat Jr., who was a quadriplegic suffering from a degenerative spine disease.
Another neighbor, Deralyn Davis, said she had power of attorney over Hubbard and that someone tried to set her home on fire about two hours before the fatal fire was set at Hubbard's residence.
That fire did little damage and fire investigators will not confirm weather the two are related.
Authorities offered no further details about the case, citing the ongoing investigation.
