Fort Worth Fire Engine Struck By Alleged Drunk Driver

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - A suspected drunk driver struck a Fort Worth fire engine in a near head-on collision late Sunday night according to the fire department.
Firefighters from FWFD Station 3 were responding to a medical call and traveling northbound in the 2300 block of Miller Ave at 11:30pm. The driver of the fire engine says he saw a vehicle speeding southbound and drifting into the oncoming lane.
The oncoming vehicle was far enough into the path of the oncoming fire engine, that the driver was required to swerve left to avoid a head-on collision, rather than to the right. The vehicle impacted the fire engine just behind the rear firefighters' position and hit with enough force to spin a 44,000 lbs vehicle 180 degrees.
Despite the damage to both vehicles, no one was injured in the crash. The person driving the southbound vehicle was arrested at the scene and faces a DWI charge.
The firefighters of Station 3 returned to their station and salvaged what equipment they could from the fire engine. They were back in service several hours later on a different fire truck.
