Fort Worth Church Damaged In 2-Alarm Fire
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - A church fire in southwest Fort Worth has dampened the holiday spirit. People driving on Granbury Road just after 7 this morning called 911 after seeing smoke coming from the Chinese Baptist Church of Fort Worth.
Fort Worth firefighters arrived on the scene to find smoke and flames inside the sanctuary at 4625 Granbury Road. The fire quickly went to a second alarm due to the size of the building.
Fire department Public Information Officer Tom Crow says they are looking at the possibility the fire started somewhere around the organ.
Investigators were still on scene around mid-morning trying to determine the exact origin and cause of the fire.
Firefighters used hook and ladder trucks to get to the top of the building and get to some of the smoke. 32 fire units responded to the call. It took them just over 20 minutes to bring the fire under control.
Damage inside the sanctuary from the flames and smoke is described as heavy.
According to the church's website, the congregation had celebrated its 20th' anniversary on December 2nd. The church had a Christmas worship service yesterday.
