Fort Worth Audit Says Tech Purchases Unneeded
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM/AP) -- A Fort Worth school district audit has deemed more than $2.7 million worth of computer equipment and technology as "unnecessary" or unused.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports the internal audit released in June found that some of the purchases sat idle during the seven-year period that was examined. It says the district has also paid hundreds of thousands of dollars in annual maintenance fees for the unused equipment.
The audit revealed $1.8 million in unneeded education technology, along with $823,380 in unused software.
The school district's chief technology director tells the Star-Telegram he wants to stop paying the fees and hopes to recoup some of the money. He says the district's legal department will look into the purchases.
School board president Norman Robbins tells the Star-Telegram he had not seen the audit and that the board has not discussed it.
