Fort Worth Animal Shelter Plans Public Lottery For 'Freeway'
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - She now has a name.
Freeway, the eight-week-old kitten rescued by Fort Worth police Wednesday night from a west side highway, will be put up for adoption next week in a public lottery.
The stray kitten was stuck between concrete barriers on the exit ramp from Loop 820 to McCart Avenue when a former Fort Worth police dispatcher noticed the stray kitten and called it in.
Two officers arrived, got traffic stopped, and coaxed the frightened feline out. She was taken to Fort Worth Animal Services, which will make the kitten available on Tuesday.
"The Fort Worth Animal Shelter will hold a lottery for the adoption ... at noon on September 30th," Fort Worth Police said on its Facebook page. "Staff will collect names of the interested parties who are at the shelter by noon and draw one lucky person/family who will have the first option to adopt."
Police said the adoption fee is only $10 but that anyone interested must be at the shelter at 4900 Martin Street by noon Tuesday to qualify.
