Fort Worth Amber Alert Now Focusing On Facebook Post
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - There has been another strange twist in a Fort Worth Amber Alert.
11-year-old Jessica Smith has been missing since Tuesday, when police say her mother kidnapped her.
On Friday afternoon someone posted to Jessica Smith's Facebook page as her saying that she was okay and asking for people to stop worrying about her.
Friday night another post was made, saying "Know (sic) guys it's really me. Just remember I'm safe. I'll be home soon. Thanks for all the support."
Fort Worth Police confirmed they were aware of the posts and investigating their validity. Anyone with access to Jessica's password would be able to post as her.
Through his attorney, Jessica's father said he was aware of the posting, but was unable to comment. CBS 11 contacted Kimberly Smith's ex-husband Mark Field Friday night in Oklahoma. He said he had not heard from the two. Kimberly Smith's two older children are now living with Field.
The Amber Alert has been extended into neighboring states since Tuesday. The alert was cancelled in New Mexico on Thursday due to lack of evidence Smith and her mother had traveled there.
The Amber Alert is still active in Oklahoma and other states.
Jessica is 5 feet 1 inch tall, weighs approximately 120 pounds, has brown eyes and straight brown hair. She regularly wears glasses, as seen in her photos, but is not believed to have had them when she was abducted.
The young girl is a fifth grader at Parkwood Hill Intermediate School in the Keller Independent School District. Police were contacted by Jessica's school when she did not show up for classes on Tuesday morning.
Jessica and her mother were last seen at their home in the 7300 block of Indiana Avenue in Fort Worth. The mother is 42-year-old Kimberly Smith. She is 5 feet 2 inches tall and weighs about 150 pounds. Kimberly has a tattoo of a cross on the back of her neck, and another decorative tattoo on her back. Kimberly is believed to be driving a 2007 silver Mazda CX-9 with the Texas license plate BMZ-390. The car has tinted windows and a pink and green Harley-Davidson decal in the rear window.
Anyone with information on Jessica Smith is urged to call 911 or contact the Fort Worth Police Department at 817-335-4222.
