Forney Student Honored For Helping Find Missing Boy

FORNEY (CBSDFW.COM) - A student in the Forney Independent School District was honored by the Kaufman County Sheriff's Office on Monday for helping authorities locate a missing special needs child last month.

The incident happened December 12, after the special needs boy's parents reported him missing. That evening, as deputies were forming a plan of action, Henderson Elementary School student Brandon Baughman happened to see the 7-year-old walking alone down the road.

Baughman talked to the child and realized that something was not right. They returned to Baughman's nearby home, where his parents called 911 to report the boy found. "We are often in contact with youngsters who don't do the right thing," said Lt. Fred Klingelberger with the Kaufman County Sheriff's Office. "This boy did the right thing completely on his own."

Baughman received special recognition Monday night during a ceremony at the Forney ISD's Board of Directors meeting. "We are proud to recognize Brandon tonight," said Kaufman County Sheriff David A. Byrnes. "He acted on his own with no thought of recognition, and really provided a valuable serivce."
