Forney Mom Hit By Lightning Knows When Storms Are Coming

FORNEY (CBSDFW.COM) - A Forney mother struck by lightening two years ago says she still hasn't completely recovered from it.

Lightning struck Kimberly Krone while she was standing in front of her kitchen sink holding a pan.  "I picked it up like this and I moved it over. And, before I could even get it to this hand, the lightning came through the recessed light," Kimberly said.

The lightning bounced off the pan and hit her in the chest.  "I can remember the pain. I can remember the burning smell. And, all I could think of was I wish it would hurry up and end," she said.

The National Weather Service says the chances of being struck by lightning are one in 700,000.

Kimberly said firefighters thought the lightning struck the electrical unit in her front yard and then traveled through the circuitry into the house.

Her son Tristan, who was nine at the time, called 911. He was awarded for helping to save his mom's life.

But Kimberly says her life is not the same.  "I still hurt," she said.  "My chest will get real tight when the storm's coming, especially the closer it gets."

And, "As far as a lightning strike, you're always going to be scared. You're always going to be nervous," she said.

Kimberly said she doesn't know why it happened. But she thinks she knows why she lived.  It was for her kids.
