Former Texas H.S. Teacher Gets 8 Years For Child Porn

NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A former Garland High School teacher is headed to federal prison.

Last Friday a judge sentenced Willis Bassham to eight years in prison for having sexual relations with three students, who were all under the age of 18.

Bassham, 40, reportedly not only admitted to having sex with the female students at Garland High, but also acknowledged taking pictures and making videos of the minors performing sexually explicit acts.

Garland ISD director of communications Chris Moore said administrators are now teaching both teachers and students to report anything they see or hear about. "Come forward and share their concerns and any rumors that they may hear, whether they're founded or unfounded," he said. "Because in order to find out that these things are going on, which are unacceptable and will not be tolerated in the district, we've got to be made aware of them.

In addition to the pictures and videos, Bassham also received pornographic images of one of the minors on his computer.

The actions of the former social studies teacher are criminal, but Moore says the focus also has to be on the young victims.  "If there are other folks out there the main concern is getting those people help, finding out who they are, and getting them any assistance that they need."

Bassham has been in custody since pleading guilty to possession of child pornography back in December 2012.
