Former Teacher Sentenced For Sexual Assault Of A Minor

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A former teacher at Episcopal School of Dallas (ESD), convicted for having a relationship with a student, was sentenced Monday.

Nathan Campbell received 10 years deferred adjudication.

The 35-year-old won't face prison time under the plea deal, but will have to register as a sex offender. Campbell's attorney, Mark Nancarrow, said of his client, "He feels remorse. He wishes...if he had to do it over again, obviously, we would not be here today."

Campbell pled guilty to one count of sexual assault of a minor, and prosecutors dropped the improper relationship charge.

Prosecutors said the plea was offered mostly because the victim and her family did not want to go through a criminal trial. The victim's attorney, Charla Aldous, said, "Do I wish he was in jail? Yes, I do. But, at least he's a registered sex offender, so hopefully he can never do this to another child."

A civil jury found the Episcopal School of Dallas negligent and slapped the school with a more than $9 million judgment in September.

The girl's parents had sued ESD after the school forced the then 16-year-old girl to withdraw from the school because of the affair with the then 34-year-old teacher.
