Former Keller Educator In Child Porn Case Dead In Jail
TEXARKANA (AP) - A former North Texas educator awaiting sentencing on child pornography counts has been found hanged in his jail cell.
Bowie County sheriff's Chief Deputy Larry Parker said Thursday that the death of 55-year-old Philip Baker is being investigated as an apparent suicide. Autopsy results are pending.
Baker's body was discovered Wednesday. Parker says it appears that Baker, who was in solitary confinement due to a medical condition, used an electric cord from his breathing machine to hang himself.
Baker was an assistant principal at Fossil Hill Middle School in Keller when he was arrested in May 2010. Baker was indicted on charges of advertising and receiving child pornography, plus transportation of child porn. He pleaded guilty in January and faced up to 30 years in prison.
