Former Interim UFC Champ Condit Looks To Secure Title Shot
DALLAS, Texas (105.3 THE FAN) - He challenged for the belt back when Georges St. Pierre was the king of the UFC's welterweight division, and now that GSP has vacated his crown, Carlos Condit looks to secure a title shot against the new champion with a win over Tyron Woodley tonight in Dallas.
UFC 171 takes place tonight at The American Airlines Center, and before Johny Hendricks and Robbie Lawler fight it out in the main event for the vacant 170 pound belt, Condit and Woodley will battle for what could quite possibly determine the first challenge for the new champion.
Condit has been there before. He held the interim title when GSP was rehabbing an injury for an extended period of time, and he defended that title against Nick Diaz before eventually losing a five round decision to St. Pierre in a unification bout. Diaz was offered a rematch with Condit tonight but elected to turn it down, and when he did, Woodley began texting UFC president Dana White ("15 times a day" by White's calculation) until White said Woodley could have the spot.
