Former Cowboy Goodrich Released On Parole
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Dwayne Goodrich once answered to the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, now he will be checking in with his parole officer.
The former NFL cornerback and convicted hit-and-run driver was sent to prison eight years ago after being convicted on two counts of Criminally Negligent Homicide.
The hit-and-run happened in the early morning hours of January 14, 2003, along I-35E near Walnut Hill Lane.
Two Good Samaritans had stopped at a crash scene along the interstate to try and help rescue a person from a burning car.
Goodrich, driving his new BMW, approached the crash at a high rate of speed, struck three pedestrians in all, and drove away, reportedly barely slowing his speed.
Goodrich claimed he thought he'd only struck debris on the highway.
Good Samaritans Demont Matthews and Joseph Wood were both killed. The third person run down at the crash scene had non-life threatening injuries.
The then 24-year-old Goodrich was arrested the next day, cut by the Cowboys a month later and eventually sentenced to 12 ½ years in prison.
The Texas Department of Criminal Justice released Goodrich on parole on October 5 from the Huntsville Unit.
The now 33-year-old will remain on supervised parole until October of 2014.
