Former Baylor DE Shawn Oakman Indicted In Sexual Assault Case

WACO (CBSDFW) - A former All-American Baylor football player was indicted on a sexual assault charge Wednesday.
24-year-old Shawn Oakman was indicted by a McLennan County grand jury on one count of sexual assault of a Baylor student in April of this year.
The affidavit states that Oakman met a woman at a Waco area bar in the early morning hours on April 3. It states they returned to his apartment and that once inside, "her clothing was forcibly removed and that she was forced onto the bed and sexually assaulted."
The victim was later treated at Providence Health Center for unspecified injuries and a sexual assault examination was conducted, the affidavit said.
According to reports, Oakman told police detectives that the sexual relationship was consensual.
A search warrant was issued and executed that afternoon at Oakman's James Avenue apartment where investigators seized several items from the residence.
Oakman was arrested on April 13 for a charge of sexual assault.
Oakman was a two-time All-Big 12 selection who ranks first on Baylor's all-time sacks list and second on the school's all-time tackles for loss list.
He was ranked in the top 100 of NFL prospects prior to the 2016 NFL Draft before the sexual assault allegations surfaced.
Oakman is free on a $25,000 bond. His attorney, Michelle Tuegel, said Wednesday that Oakman maintains his innocence in the case.
According to reports, Oakman was originally dismissed from Penn State University in 2012 for shoplifting and violation of team rules.
Former Baylor coach Art Briles reportedly gave Oakman a second chance, but Briles eventually suspended Oakman for for unspecified rules violations.
