Forest Hill Family Loses Home, Several Pets In Fire

FORT WORTH, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) - Forest Hills firefighters arrived at the 7100 block of Forest Hills Drive to see flames roaring high in the air from the front of the house there.
"We had heavy fire coming from the front porch living room and front bedroom area," said Interim Fire Chief Randy Chapman.
Firefighters cut through a locked gate and pulled hoses toward the fire.
When we arrived on the scene I conducted a 360 and saw the back half was not involved," Chapman said of his assessment of the scene. "And so we did an aggressive attack on it."
That meant aggressively pouring water into the fire from outside and inside the house. Reinforcements from Kennedale, Fort Worth and Everman quickly arrived to help. The homeowners are not in the house.
But more than a dozen dogs were on the property.

"We had the animal control officer on scene who happened to be driving by," Chapman said. "He was able to help us out to corral some of the dogs. They had several dogs on site. Unfortunately they lost a few of the dogs on the inside also."
Five dogs died in the fire as well as an assortment of pet birds and hamsters.
But firefighters say the old building's sturdy construction and an aggressive battle by fire crews saved the back of the house.
"The back half of it is just smoke damage," Chapman said.
