SOUTH DALLAS (CBS11) - Hundreds of pieces of charred lumber.

It's what remains from Monday mornings deadly collision on a South Dallas interstate.

That pile left behind has police driving away suspected looters.

Marta Jimenez and her husband say they had no idea the pile of lumber they stopped to pick up up on I-35 was from a deadly accident.

Dallas Police arrived and ordered the couple to unload it and issued a warning to leave it alone.

"Because they say it's the evidence from the accident this morning so we can't use it. What were you gong to do with it? make a porch around the house," says Jimenez.

It's still unclear what caused a passenger vehicle and a truck hauling wooded slats to collide on an exit ramp on I-20 above I-35 just after 6 am.

Nearby residents heard the explosion.

"It sounded like it was next door, the explosion. The boom was really that close," says Dolly Andre, a nearby resident.

The explosion from the crash sent flames into the air and lumber falling to the ground below.

The bodies of the those killed that include an expectant mother and two children who were all burned beyond identification.

"The thought of a person being in there was just heartbreaking. It could have been a mom or her child, or a father. I mean, just anybody," says Alma Jove, a nearby resident.

While the accident scene is clear, the spilled cargo still remains and those who try to take it will find themselves in trouble.

Police say the truck drivers insurance company will determine what to do with the remaining wood.

That driver is 58-years-old and was not injured.

The medical examiners office still has not released the names of those killed.
