Flowers In Full Bloom At Dallas Arboretum

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - It may not feel like spring outside quite yet -- temperatures across the Metroplex on Thursday morning were around the freezing mark -- but blossoms are already popping up at the Dallas Arboretum. The garden's Dallas Blooms event kicks off on Saturday and runs through April 7.

Dallas Arboretum officials begin picking out flowers for the event a year in advance, so that they can be ordered, shipped in, and ready to plant each year in November. The garden features different shades and sizes of tulips, daffodils, violas and other spring flowers. "We're bundled up because we feel cold, but it's perfect temperature for the tulips, daffodils, hyacinths. All the bulbs are just fine," explained Dave Forehand, the Dallas Arboretum vice president of gardens. "They can actually take a pretty hefty freeze."

Special events are planned throughout the entire month -- including a traditional tea time, concerts and an Easter brunch. Also, because the flowers are always growing and changing, the garden looks a little bit different each time you visit.
