Flooding Damages In Dallas County Cost $60 Million And Rising

DALLAS (CBS11) - Recent flooding is costing taxpayers in Dallas County $61 million in damages so far. Most of that amount, $49 million, is in the city of Dallas. That number will likely rise as more damages are discovered.
All of the rain and three overflowing area lakes caused the Trinity River to rise to levels not seen in years.
The river levels continue to drop, which is good news after four people in Dallas County died in fast-moving waters.
Because of the damages, Dallas County is asking the state to apply for federal help.
If approved by the federal government, that will help area cities, and give assistance to residents and businesses who suffered additional losses in the floods.
The impacted residents include those who live in 54 units that were flooded in the Wellington Place Apartments in Coppell and in houses along Duck Creek in Garland.
In addition, businesses that went under water may also receive assistance.
But Randy Meshell of FEMA Region 6 says, they must first verify damages and after that, residents and businesses may receive help. "It could take days to weeks depending on each individuals situation. That's assuming the President will add Dallas to the declaration list."Area cities are also looking to be reimbursed from the feds for repairs to streets that were flooded and debris removal.
