GRAPEVINE (CBSDFW.COM) - The news isn't what residents and businesses near the flooded portions of FM 2499 want to hear: Grapevine police now say it will take weeks, not days to re-open the road.
That's because there's still three feet of water covering both the north and southbound lanes.
Police say they don't know how many weeks it will take to get the road back up and running. That's because they have to wait for all the water to recede so TXDOT crews can inspect and assess the damage.
All of the water is coming from Lake Grapevine, which is at a near record level. The lake pouring out of its spillway and into Denton Creek, which is overflowing onto FM 2499.
The road remains closed from Lakeside Parkway in Flower Mound south to Grapevine Mills Parkway in Grapevine.
The road south of there remains open with access to businesses including the mall.
