Flight Delays Expected On Busy Travel Day
GRAPEVINE (CBSDFW.COM) - Severe weather is expected to cause headaches on what is typically one of the busiest travel days of the year. The winter storm that passed through DFW this past weekend is now hitting areas east of Texas, leading to thousands of flight delays at airports along the east coast.
Those delays are expected to create a ripple effect throughout the nation, translating to delays at DFW International Airport despite the weather in North Texas being favorable. This would be the second time during the busy Thanksgiving travel week that DFW saw flights being delayed or canceled.
Airport officials said that only one flight was canceled as of 6:00 a.m. Wednesday morning. But travelers are still advised to arrive at the airport between two and two and a half hours before their flight departs. Part of that is recommendation is due to weather conditions in other regions. It is also to accomodate those flying with small children during the holidays.
"I'm nervous," admitted Darryl Scott who is heading to New Jersey and then Connecticut. "The flight, so far, has only been 40 minutes delayed, so I think we're optimistic that we will get there."
"It's like an adventure to me," added Scott's older son, Gabriel.
Approximately 2.1 million travelers are expected to come through DFW International Airport between Wednesday and Sunday. Airport spokesman David Magana said that Wednesday is not the busiest single day because many people travel earlier in the week. Sunday, on the other hand, is expected to be a different story -- and by far the busiest travel day of the week.
