Flight Attendants Fighting Knife Rule Reversal
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - It's fliers for fliers at DFW International Airport on Thursday. Flight attendants with American Airlines are handing out informative papers to North Texas travelers as a demonstration against the Transportation Security Administration's decision to allow some knives back on airplanes.
Starting at the end of April, passengers will once again be allowed to bring hockey sticks, golf clubs, baseball bats and even small knives through the airport security checkpoints and onto flights. The news has made some flight attendants and airline employees nervous, wondering if the move is an open invitation for problems.
Members of the Association of Professional Flight Attendants are encouraging passengers to write or call their local politicians and ask them to back the 'No Knives Act.' The flight attendants have also launched an online petition on the White House's We the People webpage. As of this writing, the petition has garnered more than 40,000 digital signatures.
"There's no excuse for reversal on this policy to ban knives from aircraft cabin," the petition states, citing 9/11 as a look at the potential result of this reversal. "The ban on dangerous objects is an integral layer in aviation security."
