Five-Year-Old Leukemia Patient Takes Ride Of A Lifetime
FORT WORTH (CBS 11 NEWS) - A young boy who fights for his life everyday got to take a moment to just -- live. Wednesday night, he was taken on the ride of his life.
You could call Zachary McBride a helicopter enthusiast, though he's only five. So, when Epic Helicopters of Fort Worth presented him with a large, remote controlled helicopter, he couldn't wait to make it fly.
"How do you turn it on?" he immediately asked.
Helicopters help Zachary forget the moments of turbulence in his life.
He was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic leukemia two months ago.
It's a cancer of the white blood cells. But Zachary is still that little boy who wants to fly.
"How long is it going to take to charge that?" he asked.
His new helicopter would take time to charge. But there was already another helicopter waiting in the wings for him - a real one.
"He's excited about it. He doesn't act like it. But he's excited about it," said his mother, Michelle Fay.
Epic Helicopters took Zachary on a tour of the Fort Worth Christmas lights. Just the kind of thing he needed to make his season bright.
"You realize how many people do care when something like this happens," his mother said.
Now Zachary and his new toy helicopter are fully charged.
Though he's still receiving treatment, he's in remission.
But, for five-year-old Zachary McBride, things are looking up.
