Five Days After Van Tornado Neighbors Help Neighbors In New Ways

VAN (CBSDFW.COM) - Carmen Landeverde's home for 28 years barely stands now. He's just thankful he and his wife survived Sunday's tornado.
"I was lucky with all the friends I got I have this place cleaned within two days," says Landeverde.
It is friends, neighbors and strangers who have come back to the streets to help. More than 100 homes destroyed. More than 200 people impacted.
Volunteers like Laura Darcy have spent the last few days feeding anyone who would appreciate a meal.
"It is unifying I think. Just an outpouring of love," says Darcy of Mission U-too. "What did you lose? What do you need? Are you hungry?"
Friday morning, the community laid to rest David and Brenda Tapley, the only ones who died in the tornado. Many in Van say they decided to dedicate their work Friday in the manner of the Tapleys, helping others.
"Neighbors came in and cleared streets. We didn't wait for anyone to tell us what to do. We knew what to do," said family friend Dwayne Collins.
