Fish Kill Reported On Galveston; Red Tide Blamed
GALVESTON (AP) -- State biologists say a toxic algae bloom called "red tide" killed hundreds of thousands of fish that washed up on the beach of a tourist-popular Southeast Texas city.
Biologist Winston Denton of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department tells the Houston Chronicle that lethal toxic algae concentrations were found in dead fish taken at Galveston Island
Peter Davis with the Galveston Island Beach Patrol estimated hundreds of thousands of fish have died. However, Galveston County health officials say the water is fine for beach goers.
