First responders rescue truck driver trapped inside vehicle hanging off bridge
DALLAS - Dallas County Sheriff's Office traffic deputies alongside other first responders have rescued the driver of a Sherwin Williams box truck who was trapped inside, hanging off the Stemmons Freeway overpass Monday afternoon.
It happened at the interchange of North Stemmons Freeway and the Dallas North Tollway.
The Urban Search and Rescue Team was called to help Dallas Fire-Rescue rescue the driver. After stabilizing the truck in its resting position, they used a couple aerial ladders in their efforts.
One of the ladders was placed on the road below lifting the USAR technicians up to the cab of the truck. They fashioned a rope system at the tip of second ladder and positioned it above the cab of the truck. When rescue workers from the lower ladder reached the driver, they packaged him into a harness, hooked him up to the rope system at the tip of the second ladder and lifted him to safety.
The driver was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
There was another vehicle involved in the crash as well, and one person was transported to the hospital from that car with undisclosed injuries as well.
