First 3 Charged In TCU Drug Bust; More Expected Thurs.
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - The Tarrant County District Attorney's Office formally charged three people in the TCU drug bust investigation on Wednesday.
William Joseph Hoffman, 20, is charged with delivery of alprazolam -- the generic name for Xanax. Hoffman is from Dallas.
Katherine Petrie, 20, and Jordan Sherman, 22, are both charged with delivery of more than a quarter-ounce of marijuana. Petrie and Sherman are both from Azle. Sherman was arrested Wednesday.
All three charges are felonies. Hoffman's alleged crime carries a stiffer penalty, partly because police say it happened in a drug-free zone. He could go to prison for ten years if convicted.
If Petrie and Sherman are convicted they are facing as much as two years in state jail.
"We're not talking about a couple of college students that were making dumb mistakes or decisions. We're talking about college students that were dealing drugs not only on a university campus, but on a campus where there are also two elementary schools located."
Tarrant County DA spokeswoman Melody McDonald says she expects more people to be charged in the case on Thursday.
More than 20 people have been arrested in connection with the case. Police indicated there could be as many as nine more arrests.
"One of the individuals charged today was part of the original round-up," said Lt. Paul Henderson with the Fort Worth Police Department. "At this point, there are additional arrest warrants, an unknown amount at this point, and they'll be served as they're served and charges will be filed in the district attorney's office."
