First 2015 Case Of West Nile Reported In Texas

SOUTH TEXAS (CBSDFW) - The Texas Department of Health is reporting its first case of West Nile this year.
According to health officials, the patient lives in the Harris County (Houston) area and has been diagnosed with West Nile neuroinvasive disease, the more serious form of illness.
The state health department is also monitoring cases of another mosquito-borne virus, chikungunya. Seven people in Texas have been diagnosed with chikungunya this year.
Last year, there were 379 human cases of West Nile illness in Texas, including six deaths.
