Fire Rips Through Irving Apartment Complex
IRVING (CBSDFW.COM) - Several families are waking up away from their homes on Wednesday after a three-alarm fire ripped through the Parkridge Place Apartments in Irving. The complex is located along Parkridge Boulevard. Emergency crews received calls about the blaze at about 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday night.
Flames were shooting through the roof of an apartment complex buildings when firefighters first arrived at the scene. The fire quickly went to three alarms as crews battled the flames and temperatures that were still hovering in the upper 80s and lower 90s.
Two apartment units were destroyed in the fire, and others sustained smoke and water damage.
Fawna Patterson was driving past the apartment complex after work and saw the smoke. She rushed to wake up her boyfriend, who lives in the Irving complex. "The first thing that came to mind is that there's probably still people inside," said Leonid Semenenko. "It's pretty late at night. I figured they were probably still sleeping. So, that was the first thing that came to mind, was just go knocking on doors and try to get people out as quick as possible."
One person suffered a cut to the head, but was expected to be just fine. There were no other reported injuries to residents or firefighters.
The cause of the fire is now under investigation. But officials did say that nobody was home in the apartment unit where the fire is believed to have started.
The American Red Cross arrived at the scene to help out the displaced residents, but fire officials said that those families would be helped by the apartment complex management.
