Fire Department Searching For Porta-Potty Pyro
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - The smoke was visible for miles as dozens of porta-potties burned near downtown Fort Worth.
More than a dozen portable toilets in a storage area near Interstate-30 and Riverside were set ablaze.
There are hundreds of porta-potties kept in a fenced-off area across the street from the Salvation Army.
"They've had some holes [in the fence] and I guess some homeless people getting in and out of this locked up area," explained Steve urban, an engineer with the Fort Worth Fire Department. "They're [area businesses] trying to get the owner's to do something about it and they haven't."
While some two-dozen porta-potties were destroyed, firefighters didn't have a hard time extinguishing the blaze.
"It was pretty easy," Urban said. "We just hooked up to this hydrant right here, because it was real close, and just in case the wind picked up. I don't think we used half a tank of water on it."
No one was injured and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
