Fire Damages Fort Worth Apartment Complex
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - A two-alarm fire swept through an east Fort Worth apartment complex on Wednesday night, damaging eight units and sending one person to the hospital.
Flames were shooting out of a second-floor unit when firefighters first arrived on the scene at The Horizons apartment complex on Sunridge Circle just after 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday night. The flames heavily damaged two units, and smoke and water damaged the other six, according to the fire department.
"Fire crews made an aggressive attack on the fire and made an excellent stop, limiting fire damage to one building," explained Tim Hardeman with the Fort Worth Fire Department. It took crews about 20 minutes to contain the blaze.
"We looked in the window and it was a little spark, and so I just called the police and it just kept getting bigger and bigger," said apartment resident Kayla Woodard. "After I got off the phone with the police, we just started knocking on everyone's doors like, 'Get out, get out, get out!'"
One man, who had a pre-existing medical condition, was taken to the hospital to be checked out.
Volunteers from the American Red Cross arrived a short time later to help the 17 displaced residents.
Hardeman said that the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
