Fire-Damaged Garland School Closed Until Jan. 4
GARLAND (AP) - A fire-damaged suburban Dallas school will remain closed until January 4 during work to clean up and repair the complex.
An advisory Wednesday on the Garland Independent School District website says portable classrooms will be used by students at Webb Middle School.
Nobody was injured in the fire on the evening of December 6, when classes were not in session. Custodians discovered the blaze, which district officials say apparently broke out in an area near an appliance. Arson has been ruled out.
More than 1,000 students attend Webb Middle School, which suffered fire and water damage. GISD says the Texas Education Agency has decided that displaced students will not be required to make up school days they missed last week following the fire.
